I have a Agant V5 full HD webcam
ReplyDeleteYour app does not work with photo booth !
The Zoom does not work !
Focus does not work ! o one advanced settings work with the Isight or the external webcam !
What does that mean ? Help me please
I am waiting on your answer
The camera hardware itself is the one actually decides what settings it can support.
ReplyDeleteWebcam Settings communicates with the camera to find out supported control on the camera and enables those controls on the UI.
iSight and FaceTime/FaceTime HD does not support focus, zoom, pan and tilt. I personally have 3 cameras support these controls - Microsoft LifeCam Studio, Logitech HD Webcam C615 and Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910; all 3 are true HD 1080P camera.
Looks like only high-end cameras support these controls and your Agent V5 full HD seems to be a high-end camera with comparable spec. I am sorry you cannot use these controls on your camera. If you decide not to use Webcam Settings, can you ask Apple to refund? If you have trouble asking Apple to refund, please email me at mactaris[at]mac.com and we can work out some way.
I will try to make this situation more clear to customers in my product descriptions (and try not to alarm Apple review guys by mentioning Microsoft product on Mac App Store :)
Hope I answered your question, and let me know if you need any further assistance.
DeleteYes your are wright and thanks for post a good topic . your post is
top most in realated post of The camera hardware itself is the one actually decides what settings it can support.
Hi,
DeleteI am on the fence about purchasing this product. From my research so far, it appears that it works with the MS Lifecam Studio 1080p camera. Do you know if it will work with google hangout video chat?
Thanks,
Hi, I am looking to get this as it is likely going to be saving me a good 89 bucks that I just spent last week on a new Logitech webcam, which, after purchasing, I realized doesn't offer any more manual control than my Microsoft Cinema. Does this app support the camera in widescreen mode? I will purchase this software regardless of whether or not it does, because while my webcam works it is overexposed and Microsoft isn't nice enough to make or software for iOS, I was just wondering.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I figured you were the best person to ask, do you have any clue why it seems that virtually no one just flat out offers webcams with manual controls for macs? I recently transferred over from Windows for school and I've been absolutely astounded that things that I thought were just... standard to include (like exposure and focus, on my Lifecam Cinema). Thanks so much for contributing this product. It's simple, to the point, and just what I need.
Victoria, I will try my best to answer your questions. You know I am just a developer which happens to know a bit more about USB Cameras because I have been involved with several clients developing different types of USB cameras. Please take my answer as personal opinions.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, Webcam Settings provides manual settings for UVC cameras. Settings means video quality control like brightness, contrast these kinds of things. It also provides other advanced control such as focus, zoom, pan and tilt on some hi-end cameras.
The Widescreen mode you are talking about is video streams coming out of the camera, which is not under the scope of Webcam Settings. The reason is your video app or webcam app is actually the one, which is receiving video streams from the webcam. That app generally controls what kind of video formats and size it wants handle to produce a still image, a video recording or simply video previews user sees on the screen.
It is actually possible for Webcam Settings to try to manipulate video format or size from outside the webcam app. Problem is the webcam app may not be able to accept and handle different format or size of video stream. I am still thinking of a better way to help people deal with this issue. One possibility is for me to develop a video recording app and support format/size switch inside this app. I actually have a prototype of such an app but am facing some tough decisions and haven’t made any yet.
Your second question a big one that makes all of us wonders why all the time. On the very surface, Logitech will tell you it’s Apple’s fault not providing any manual control over Apple supplied UVC camera driver. All those cameras we can buy on the market that can be plug to a Mac and just work without install any driver is because Apple preinstalled a standard UVC camera driver inside OS X. This driver is based on a new architecture and the new architecture has been in development for several years and not quite complete yet. My guess is Apple will eventually provide general camera settings when the new architecture is more completed. But Apple been Apple, they don’t like to release immature functions until everything is well though thru. Even this means several years of waiting for users and developers.
In more technical terms, Apple is transiting from 20 years old QuickTime architecture (Audio/Video technology standards on Mac) to a more modern, object oriented architecture. In the mean time they are transiting from 32bit world to 64bit world. Plus take in count iOS is part of the plan that in needs and ultimately affects the whole transition process.
There are too much to talk about on this topic. Hope my “brief answer” gives you some idea of the whole situation.
Thank you Mactaris for your thorough and thoughtful replies to our questions! Amazing customer service for a free product. I for one seriously appreciate it.
DeleteHi again! Thanks for your response, by the way, it really helped. I purchased this app today and it worked great, did exactly what I wanted it to do, then after I quit it for the first time, it wont reopen. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. Have you encountered this before, or do you have any basic steps I can go through to try and restore it? It worked great, but after I quit it once it must have had its feelings hurt because it wont start up again.
ReplyDeleteHi Victoria
DeleteWere you able to get a wide angle out of your Logitech camera using the application ?
Thanks
Sorry, I figured it out. It took me three hours to realize that that icon was up there. Chalk that up to me being stupid. Anyways, thanks again for the great app.
ReplyDeleteUnable to find the app in the store . . . Where is it available?
ReplyDeleteWas able to find it!!!
DeleteWhy don't so many of the settings work? Hue, Saturation, and white balance are not working.
ReplyDeleteIf your webcam does not support Hue, Saturation and White Balance, they will be disabled. Can you tell me which webcam you are using?
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteworked great for 5 min until I noticed that the picture would darken upon launching another application so I would have to adjust the settings every time. If it helps I am trying to get it to work with Logitech c510 and i do use flash as well.skype and FaceTime etc. hope u fix soon as its a good app for those like me without the patience for stuff like uvc-ctrl or other line command options.
ReplyDeleteApps like FaceTime, Photo Booth and QuickTime Player are using newer technology and they seems play nicely with other app. They will not reset the webcam when launch.
DeleteApps like Skype using older technology will reset the webcam when launch. This behavior probably cannot be changed by Webcam Settings.
Webcam Settings as and Mac App Store app, is required to be sandboxed since 1 June. This makes thing even more difficult.
One way to help user deal with the reset issue is to add save presets function. This should allow users to load and apply pre-defined preset by a simple click. Although this is still a manual procedure, I hope it can be an acceptable solution for you.
Please email me if you wish to discuss any further. I would very much like to come up with a good solution for this and may also need your help for pre-release testing.
Wanted to reply and say that presets seems like an excellent way to solve this! Would also be great for users like me who might use the camera in different lighting conditions and want to change things on the fly. For instance going from an incendescent lighted room to a sunlit room. Being able to just click a preset for this rather than manually set each variable would be great. So this would solve two issues if implemented.
DeletePreset feature has been added since version 1.1, please let me know if there is something I can improve. Can you send me an email at mactaris@mac.com? Thanks.
DeleteGents:
ReplyDeleteYou really should provide a free version that works for 24 hours or 5 launches or something like that. Sure its only 8 bucks but given the variety of camera's etc, I (and I suspect not a few others) simply aren't going to roll the dice on 8 bucks for something that may turn out to be a useless brick with their camera.
I'd love to buy this. But not before I get a chance to see if it works for me.
B
Good idea, I will think about how this can be done. Thank you very much.
Deleteyes. a trial would be great!! just a couple of uses to see if there are any compatibility problems.

DeleteI have a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 that I used to use with my old PC. It is a great camera, and I would like to keep using it since it has 720p capability. Does your SW suport advanced settings (focus, zoom, pan etc.) with this camera?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Quickcam Pro 9000 does not have these advanced settings from its hardware. It seems like only full hd camera such as Microsoft LifeCam Studio, Logitech HD Webcam C615 and Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910/C920 supports these settings.
DeleteI just purchased Webcam settings, but it will not open at all (of course tried opening through Finder, via the icon, doubleclick, right click > Open, nothing. Tried opening both with and without a webcam app open (photobooth). No other issues with my Mac and never had this problem with any other Mac.
ReplyDeleteAfter downloaded "Webcam Settings", you should be able to find it in your "Applications" folder.
DeleteYou can double click on the icon to open it.
After you open it, it will not show up on your Dock like other app.
"Webcam Settings" will be running on your menubar as a small colorful icon and stays there.
On the small colorful icon you can show/hide the "Webcam Settings Panel" and every settings is inside the panel.
If you are still having problem opening the app, can you please send me an email? I will be able to respond faster with email.
I just bought this Great program, Thank you! I use it with the program, "Sparkbooth". It has greatly enhanced my photo booth business. I can now adjust my Logitech 910 webcam and get predictable results every time.
ReplyDeleteI did notice one issue. After using the program for a about an hour (I don't know if this a time dependent issue.) the auto focus goes to infinity and everything in my booth is out of focus. The work around for me is that I go to manual focus, the inside of the booth is only 5'X5' so it works. But others might not be so lucky.
Thanks,
Ed
I am traveling in Spain and don't have the C910 with me now. WIll investigate this issue once I get home.
DeleteI will contact you directly through email.
Great software!! I have the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema. I'm using it in a Hackintosh environment. It was so washed out in a bright room and I couldn't control the brightness. I didn't want spend for a compatible cam and tried some other softwares but nothing I tried worked. I found this on google and lo and behold it did everything I wanted to do and more!! It's worth every penny!!
ReplyDeletei record video using the c910 on OS X Lion (and potentially Mountain Lion later) using QuickTime. Also, my camera is not recognized in iMovie although I would like it to be.
ReplyDeleteCan Webcam Settings work with both of these applications and provide me with the full features listed here? I need to be able to control contrast, brightness, focus, basically all the functionalities of the Windows Logitech Webcam Software. Will Webcam Settings provide these settings for Quicktime and iMovie for the Logitech c910?
In my test C901 can be recognized by iMove '11 (version 9.0.8), and Webcam Settings allow you to adjust all supported settings while working with iMovie. QuickTime Player 7 and QuickTime Player are both OK too.
DeleteLogitech C901 supports all settings listed here except Aperture, Hue and Gamma.
Thanks for your reply, but i had found it out earlier since I couldn't wait and purchased the software on the App Store. This software is a real lifesaver. The poor support of logitech for the Mac had rendered my c910 virtually useless. Then I found out about webcam settings on the logitech forums.i only wish you had written this software earlier.. It would've saved me a lot of frustration. If logitech has any sense at all the should probably acquire you and your software.
DeleteI have a Logitech C615, and it will only produce reversed images. I'm not sure why Logitech does this (I can guess), but it would be nice if we can also have an un-reversed image. Holding up something to the camera that contains text can be somewhat embarrassing. Photo Booth can reverse the image, but other apps cannot. I don't know if the C615 has a simple setting for this (and whether UVC can do it), but if it does, then that would be a very nice feature to have available.
ReplyDeleteLogitech C615 produce un-reversed images like all other cameras (tested with built-in iSight, Microsoft LifeCam Studio and other Logitech cameras). It's the software doing the reverse trick. In my test, normal app like QuickTime Player X, QuickTime Player 7 and my own test app. They all produce un-reversed images.
DeletePhoto Booth, FaceTime, Skype and maybe others, they produce reversed images. I don't know why they choose to do it this way.
I checked UVC specification and found no standard control for Mirror or Flip image settings. These are very advanced settings usually supplied by vendor specific Extension Unit or done be the driver in software manner.
Webcam Settings is only an app and will not be able to provide this feature. Maybe you can consider iGalsses, it's a driver level solution and provide the mirror feature you need.
Hi There!
ReplyDeleteI have a Logitech Quickcam Orbit AF, which has an awesome pan, tilt, and direction control on the Windows side, but I use my Mac for most video conferencing. I wanted a way to be able to control the actual camera while it's in use for video conferencing, so that I can pan around the room and look up and down if needed. Will the Webcam Settings App allow me to do this? Thanks!
Logitech Quickcam Orbit AF is not using standard UVC settings to control pan and tilt. It is using vendor specific Extension Units to control those settings.
DeleteI was originally developing an app to control Logitech Quickcam Orbit AF; it does exactly what you want. But I cannot figure out a way to get it on Mac App Store. So I let the app sit in my HD for more than one year.
Finally I decided to remove Orbit AF specific feature and it became Webcam Settings now.
D'oh! Figures, the one camera I would love for it to work on continues to give me headaches. If you ever do find a way to get the app out, or have a solution for the Orbit AF, I'd love to hear about it :)
DeleteThe app you have here is still great, even without the Orbit AF controls, nice work on putting together such a nice piece of software.
Would you send me an email at mactaris@mac.com so I can get in touch with you? If I can make the Orbit AF control app into a product I will definitely send you a copy.
DeleteThis app looks like it really does what I need. Right now I use iGlasses 3 which works the same way and I really like it because settings are saved and it can be used as your default camera for FT, Photo Booth, Skype, etc. The one thing I hate about it is that it shoots photos and records in 640 x 426 resolution, whereas my built-in cam is 1080 x 720.
ReplyDeleteSo my first question is, does Webcam Settings dumb down the resolution of the built-in cam or does it retain HD quality? Are settings saved? And what is the difference between Site Control and Webcam Settings?
I would really like to purchase this but if it does happen to be less of what I've been looking for, I wouldn't be too happy. I wish there was some kind of trial or free version to test it out.
1. Webcam Settings does not affect camera resolutions. You don't need to choose other video source; all video apps work the way they are now. Webcam Settings is intended to work like sliders and buttons equipped on the camera itself, change these settings simply affect the "quality" of your video.
Delete2. Currently version 1.0 does not support save settings. Version 1.1 will support this feature and it will be in beta soon. If you would send me an email at mactaris@mac.com, I will include you in my beta tester list.
3. Sight Control supports Apple's built-in cameras only and Webcam Settings supports all UVC cameras. In your case you will need Webcam Settings.
Sorry there is no trial or demo version yet. Right now I am devoting all my time developing the new version, after version 1.1 is completed I will come back to make a demo version.
Will the settings work for flash based webcam chatrooms? the lifecam studio appears but as others is washed out.
ReplyDeleteYes, Webcam Settings works with Flash based webcam app.
DeleteGreetings
ReplyDeleteWill Webcam Settings work with Creative Live Cam Socialize 1080? If yes, will the app also play nice with iStopMotion software? Stopmotion is impossible without manual controls, so I really hope your app will work with my webcam.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Took a gamble and bought the app. And yes, it works fine with the Creative Live Cam :-)
DeleteSorry for my late reply. I was shopping around for a Creative Live Cam but can't find it anywhere. Looks like they are not selling it here in Taiwan. Would you let me know what controls are supported on your Creative Live Cam?
DeleteFor iStopMotion, they actually have a great article about Webcam Settings,
http://www.boinx.com/chronicles/2012/8/31/take-control-over-your-webcam/
Any chance of making this available outside the app store? Any love for older OS (10.5.8)?
ReplyDeleteI've got a dev machine frozen in time because it's supporting old software. Would love to use this on that machine if that's at all possible.
Technically Webcam Settings can support 10.5.8, I will look into other sales channels. But this probably won't happen very soon. Would you send me an email at mactaris@mac.com so I can notify you when it's available?
DeleteHey,
ReplyDeletejust bought webcam settings in the app store, it opened immediately after the installation. But since then I can't open it any more... what to do?
After downloaded "Webcam Settings", you should be able to find it in your "Applications" folder.
If you are still having problem opening the app, you please send me an email at mactaris@mac.com. I will be able to respond faster with email.
Hi Mactaris,
ReplyDeleteJust bought the app to get my C920 running with Istopmotion. Unfortunately my experience is it to be is really "buggy". The only thing that's "working" for me now is "Manual Focus" and "Power Line frequency". Except when i hide the panel, then it suddenly wants to autofocus again.
From within Istopmotion the saturation, brightness, contrast and sharpness DO work? But not from the "Webcam Settings" panel, it does nothing.
I expected a little less trouble, because people like 8thNote say it works like a charm!?
Hope version 1.1 will solve this, cause for now i can't use it at all for what i bought it for. Focus, exposure and whitebalance have to be manual and stable for stopmotion. They aren't...
Thanks
Niek
Dear Niek,
DeleteI am not sure why you experienced these issues with C920 and iStopMotion.
Even Boinx Software (the maker of iStopMotion) has a great article on their website talking about how to use Webcam Settings.
Take Control Over Your Webcam
http://www.boinx.com/chronicles/2012/8/31/take-control-over-your-webcam/
I think they are using C910. I have both C910 and C920 and they both work with Webcam Settings.
Can you send me an email at mactaris@mac.com so we can discuss in details? Thanks.
I'm using a mac book pro with the Logitech C920. Imovie did not sense the Logitech camera. I down loaded the webcam settings app and I can now control the various camera settings, but imovie still does not recognize the camera. A friend of mine came up with a work around using quicktime. Seems the camera is recognized by quicktime and photobooth, but not imovie. Here is the work around...
ReplyDeleteMake sure you camera is on first.
Open quicktime 7 (This is the version I'm using)
GOTO File
Click on New Movie Record, whcih brings up the Quick time recording window.
Open Web Cam Settings. Should be able to adjust contrast etc.
Hit Record. Save to your desktop
Open imovie.
GOTO File
Click Import Movies and load just recorded clip into Imovie for editing.
Thank you very much for sharing your experiences with iMovie.
DeleteToday I released a small utility for Webcam Settings users to enable external USB UVC camera support in iMovie. Please click the "Webcam Settings and iMovie" tab on the top to check it out.
Good day buddy.
ReplyDeleteI was woundering if you would be adding support for
Logitech Broadcaster webcam.
Since it's a wifi webcam it isn't supported out of the box
Dear Thomas,
DeleteI am afraid that's not possible. Logitech Broadcaster webcam is not an UVC camera. It's controlled by Logitech's custom made driver.
Unlike other Logitech UVC cameras which are controlled by Apple's UVC class driver, Logitech has full control over Broadcaster webcam. There is no reason why they cannot provide camera settings for this product on Mac.
One of my client has a similar wireless camera which I built driver for. They do support camera settings through app -> custom made driver -> wireless module ->the camera hardware. And the camera settings support is part of the product plan in the beginning with. I would expect Logitech to do the same while planning their Mac specific product...
Sorry there is currently no other purchase option or a trial yet.
ReplyDeleteI have a link here which may give you some information :)

Sorry, but Webcam doesn't seem to recognize my external FW400 Apple iSight. If I am doing something wrong please advise, if not can I get a refund?
ReplyDelete-Brad Dye
Sorry, Webcam Settings doesn't support external firewire iSight. I will email you about refund details.
DeleteMy Facetime HD camera with my macbook air is not allowing me to control zoom... main reason I purchased this app. Am I missing something? Or can I get a refund if it's not supported?
ReplyDeleteSorry, FaceTime HD camera does not support zoom from it's hardware. Please check this link for how to get a refund from App Store.

hi, I just bought and installed this from the App store and after some basic trials the program won't open/launch anymore. Have tried restarting my computer, relaunching Finder, doesn't help.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if uninstalling and reinstalling the program might help, but I can't find anything from the App store on how to do this. Now can I find a troubleshooting or support section on your website. Can you help?
After downloaded "Webcam Settings", you should be able to find it in your "Applications" folder.

If I am broadcasting through wirecast using 4 logitech c920s, will I be able to use this app to control the camera settings individually for each one?
ReplyDeleteYes, you can control each camera individually. I found one user with similar configuration posted his using of Webcam Settings in this link (sorry in Japanese).

Awesome, thanks for quick response, I'll definitely be purchasing this app!
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI just downloaded your app to use the Logitech C920 webcam in my mac. It works perfectly with QuickTime, but I would like to use it with adobe flash player.
But my webcam does not appear in the list flash player displays. Flash only recognizes my integrated camera.
Does your app works with adobe flash player?
Thank you for your help.
Several users confirmed to me that Webcam Settings works with Flash based app.
DeleteCan you test your C920 on this Test Webcam site?

Please email me at mactaris@mac.com if you are still have issues. Thanks.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI use Webcam Settings on my iMac i5 with OSX 10.7 to control a Liquid Digital aGent V6 and it works perfectly.
Is there an older version like 1.0 that could run on OSX 10.5.8 (my older iMac I need not to upgrade) ?
If yes, where can I purchase it ?
Thank you.
Chris
It is possible to provide a version that supports Mac OS X 10.5. But I am currently busy adding new features to the existing App Store version. Can you send me an email so I can notify you once I have time to release a 10.5 compatible version? Thanks.
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI just found & purchased WebCam Settings. What a great app! Thanks.
I used to use iGlasses for similar manual control but I'm switching over to WebCam Settings. I have a Logitech C910 and will soon get a C920. Hopefully I can use them both.
Would like to mention one app I use together with yours: CamTwist (free). One problem I've had with webcams is image size/resolution. The Logitech cams are terrific hardware and are capable of very high resulution, e.g. 1080p 1920 x 1080. Often this is more than desired. Here's where CamTwist helps out. In CamTwist you can choose a different resolution such as 1280x720 (720p) or 720x480 (480p at 3:2 aspect ratio). This reduces the amount of data (and increases frame rates) for streaming (e.g. Google+ Hangouts) or recording video. (I like Debut for recording video - not too complicated, not too expensive.)
I'm not associated with CamTwist in any way. It's just something I found some time back while scouring the web. It does lots of other things and can be a little confusing to use & set up, but by offering that one image size/resolution choice it's well worth the trouble. And together with WebCam Settings for manual focus control, etc. it's a great combination.
I don't know if you could get similar image size/resolution control into a future version of WebCam Settings. If so, your app would then do everything I need on a Mac webcam app!
My setup is OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a fairly zippy hackintosh system (Intel I3 3+GHz, 8 GB RAM, GeForce GTS 250 Graphics).
-Tim aka NixieToob
Does *webcam settings* support Snow Leopard ? Is the App store the only place to buy ? Thanks and best to you 99guspuppet
ReplyDeleteYes, Webcam Settings supports Snow Leopard. Currently it's available only on the Mac App Store. Thank you for your interest in my app :)
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI'm using Webcam Settings with two cams simultaneously - a Logitech C910 and a C920. This works because the cams are plugged into separate USB busses (not just separate ports). The busses are both listed as "USB High-Speed Bus" (i.e. USB 2.0) on Snow Leopard's 'System Profiler.' I switch between the cams using the app CamTwist.
Your Webcam Settings app works nicely & stores the settings for both cams, even when they're different. To adjust settings I switch from one to the other with the popup menu at the top of your Webcam Settings Panel. Right now both cams read "Logitech Camera" in the popup menu. I have to remember which one is in the first & second position to select that camera & change settings.
So, a welcome change would be if these two cams were identified differently in the popup menu. Thanks for the great app!.
-Tim aka NixieToob
Good point! I will make this change in the next version. May I ask you to leave a review on the Mac App Store? Thank you very much.
DeleteYou bet. Be glad to leave a review!
DeleteThis looks like a great app, and I just downloaded it. I was surprised to find that it doesn't support camera pan/tilt on the Logitech QuickCam Orbit AF. The camera has those capabilities and they are supported under Windows. Is there any plan to support this? Or do you have any other suggestions for controlling the pan/tilt on the camera with a Mac?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Logitech Quickcam Orbit AF is not using standard UVC settings to control pan and tilt. It is using vendor specific Extension Units to control those settings.

This is a great app for my C920. Thanks..謝謝! I use this app with Wriest and it gives my C920 a second life. 我覺得我的C920復活啦! Thanks again. I live and work in Taiwan and I hope you understood my so so Chinese.
ReplyDeleteTrying to use Webcam settings on my 2013 Macbook Air. It opens fine but crashes immediately when I try to adjust any setting.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Apple has changed webcam in 2013 MacBook Air. Can you send me an email at mactaris@mac.com so I can update you on the support status? Thank you very much.
DeleteHello Mactaris :)
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in this app, but i really need it to work with Syphon. http://syphon.v002.info/
Be waiting for our reply,
Thanks
Cheers, Pedro
I am not really sure how Webcam Settings should work with Syphon, Webcam Settings communicate with camera through USB bus and is not using any GPU related stuff. There shouldn't be any problem for both working together. Can you send me an email so we can discuss in details? Thank you very much.
DeleteLOVE this product, however I'm having one small problem. I have multiple Logitech C920's plugged into my machine and Wirecast recognizes them both. However, Webcam Settings only seems to see 1 of them. Is there anyway to get Webcam Settings to see and control both of the cameras? Cheers, and thanks for a great program!
ReplyDeleteYou know what... never mind. Once I rebooted my iMac it recognized all the webcams. Thank you again, I don't know how I'd survive the show we're doing without your amazing program!
DeleteThe preset feature doesn't handle name collisions. It lets you save presets with the same name as existing ones, and then gets them confused. Deleting presets is also confused by this situation.
ReplyDeleteI though the name collisions is handled in my code... will double check and fix it in the next version, thank you for reminds me of this problem.
DeleteAfter the 2.1 update I can't seem to get Webcam Settings to work with Photo Booth. I have a Logitech 920 camera on a MacMini. The tilt and pan work a little in PB, but the zoom doesn't work at all . . . I thought it used to work, but maybe not? Works in skype and Facetime, but not Photobooth . . . Suggestions?
ReplyDeleteThe Zoom, Pan and Tilt function on C920 is actually tight to its resolution. Please check this webpage,
Deletehttp://mactaris.blogspot.tw/2012/05/logitech-hd-pro-webcam-c920.html
At maximum resolution (1920 x 1080), C920 only allows zoom values of 100 ~ 120. In this situation Pan and Tilt ranges are really small and maybe not noticeable.
If you use C920 in FaceTime, you will notice the zoom range is wider. Pan and Tilt ranges are also wider in this app.
I am thinking of adding a preview window in Webcam Settings which allows users to change camera resolution. The zoom, pan and tilt functions will be more noticeable in different resolutions.
Also, the "Subscribe by email" link (below this box) gives an error message . . .
ReplyDeleteThanks for your tip, I will ask google and see if they can help fix this error.
DeleteMactaris. I use a ASUS monitor with my MBP laptop. The USB camera in the monitor is supposed to be PNP for Mac, but it is not. Web posts show many mac owners have the same problem. In sum, there is no reliable / complete camera driver in Mac OSX to run the camera properly.
ReplyDeleteOne current solution is a combination of software CamTwist and/or iGlasses. For me, neither solution is great...
I wonder if WebCam settings **could** serve as the driver of sorts.
Before I purchased, I wonder if you have any experience with either this issue or anything similar that might prompt me to buy this? I know this is a toughie to answer so feel free to punt, but I thought it worth a try.
Thx
John
Hi, just purchased this app. Worked great first time but it won't start 2nd time round? Rebooted mac, same issue. Tried deleting the app to reinstall it yet my mac tells me the app can't be trashed because it's currently open (it's definately not). Please can you help?

Thanks!!!
Microsoft LifeCam Cinema should work on a Mac by default without any driver. Please send me an email so I can help you identify where is the problem. Thanks.
DeleteJust bought this App on recommendation of the macuser forum.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't work for me.

Does this work using Google Hangouts? I need to be able to adjust my exposure and WB for hangouts.
ReplyDeleteDoes this work using Google Hangouts? I need to be able to adjust my exposure and WB for hangouts.
ReplyDeleteYes, Webcam Settings works with Google Hangouts.
DeleteCan the app enable/ disable the blue activity light on the logitech c920?
ReplyDeleteNot in the current version (version 2.1), but I am actually testing this feature in the new beta version.
DeleteIs this compatible with Mavericks?
ReplyDeleteYes, Webcam Settings is compatible with Mavericks.
DeleteI have a Macally Megacam 2.0 and the frame rates on my late-2012 Mac Mini are just terrible. The picture quality is nice; it's just the frame rates. Great as a mic but worthless for video.
ReplyDeleteI think the problem is that the Megacam is always imaging at its maximum resolution.
Will Webcam Settings allow me to adjust the Megacam's resolution?
Thanks for reading!
I'm using this with my iMac and a Logitech C920 - WOW.....I LOVE it !!! Thank you so much for creating this software....it is exactly what I was looking for.
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm hoping to capture video with 3 HD webcams (maybe C920's?) simultaneously on a 1 year old iMac, and on a tight budget.
ReplyDeleteCan this be done, and if so, could you advise on what software will be needed, etc.?
Thanks.
To capture 3 HD webcams simultaneously, you have to overcome several technical barriers.
Delete1. USB bandwidth, every HD webcam will eat up almost all bandwidth on a USB bus, therefore you will need a Mac with 3 USB ports and 3 independent USB buses. You can check System Information, Hardware > USB to find how many buses you have on your iMac.
2. Software to record video, not sure which one can record 3 video simultaneously, but it shouldn't be difficult to use 3 apps to record one each.
3. While recording all three, you may not be able to achieve high frame rate if all three are using H.264 encoding if your iMac is not powerful enough. Another option is to record in Photo JPEG format but this will require huge hard drive space and you need to make sure the hard drive is fast enough to handle 3 video stream. If you can accept lower resolution say 720p, the hardware requirement is probably not that bad and iMac could be able to do that.
You can email me directly if you like to discuss more in detail. Thank you very much.
Thank you! Next step for me: check those buses.
DeleteWill this work with Google Hangouts using a Logitech c920 on macbook pro?
ReplyDeleteYes, Webcam Settings works with Hangouts and C920 on MacBook Pro.
DeleteThis TidBITS article mentioned both C920 and Webcam Settings with Google+ Hangouts.

Hi guys: I'm running latest OSX Mavericks and trying to download the Webcam Settings app. Clicking on the Available in Apple App store button goes nowhere - no reaction, seems dead! Anything I'm missing here? PdeP 12:47h 07/Dec/2013
ReplyDeleteHow about this link,
Deletehttps://itunes.apple.com/app/webcam-settings/id533696630?mt=12
or this link?
http://appstore.com/mac/webcamsettings
Sorry - I dble posted. I have tried these two links as above: https://itunes.apple.com/app/webcam-settings/id533696630?mt=12 and http://appstore.com/mac/webcamsettings Still no luck. One hangs the other is dead completely. PdeP
DeleteTrying to download this from the the app store and the Available on App store button goes nowhere. The link just hangs - forever! Using OSX Mavericks and my App Store would be Spain. Any help gratefully received.
ReplyDeleteBTW: I have tried these two links as above: https://itunes.apple.com/app/webcam-settings/id533696630?mt=12 and http://appstore.com/mac/webcamsettings Still no luck. One hangs the other is dead completely. PdeP
DeleteWhat if you open App Store then search for Webcam Settings? Will that work?
DeleteApp Store can be found in your /Applications folder or on your dock.
Tried that and the app doesn't show up. PdeP
DeleteAh, wait a moment, guys we have movement! Fingers crossed. 13:05h 07/Dec/2013
ReplyDeleteOK - panic over - it's downloaded. Must have been a poor connection. Thanks for your help - much appreciated - PdeP
ReplyDeleteNo problem, let me know if there is anything I can help.
DeleteI was loving your app, but then all of a sudden, when it was running, my video would lag and stutter with tons of motion blur, looking terrible. Is there some setting I'm missing? I'm not sure why it would start to do it all of a sudden after working so well. HELP!
ReplyDeleteIn the Preferences tab, can you disable both "Read auto settings from webcam" and "Write every settings to webcam" and try if this fixed your video lag?
DeleteAha - this appears to have gotten rid of the problem. HOWEVER! When I do a Hangout On Air, and I screenshare, my camera switches off while I display something on my desktop. WHen I come back to my camera, I lose the settings that WebCam Settings had applied. THis is why I had "Writer every setting to webcam" set to every .5 seconds so that when I switched back, the color would be balanced again. I guess I can try every 1 or 2 seconds and see if that stops the lag/extreme motion blur. Does this make sense?? THX
DeleteYes, The option "Writer every setting to webcam" is designed to solve the lose settings issue on certain conditions.
DeleteWriting settings in every 0.5 seconds shouldn't be an issue normally, but some camera may not be able to process USB commands fast enough. This is maybe the reason why you are experiencing video lag. Please try different time intervals to find out which one works best with your camera.
Can you tell me which camera you are using and which app you are experiencing video lag? I would like to run some tests as well. Thanks.
Question before purchasing your App. It looks like I will be able to select the builtin facetime camera, or an external USB Camera (I have the Logitech C910 and C920) as the primary camera. (a) will I still have to change the camera to use within Skype and (b) does it also use the C920 microphones as opposed to the one built in the Mac? I am on Mavericks (10.9). Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, there is no way to set a primary camera on Mac OS X. You will need to choose which camera to use in the video app (every video app allows you to choose which camera to use). For Skype, select "Preferences..," from Skype menu and select "Audio/Video" tab, you can then select HD Pro Webcam C920 from the Camera drop down menu.
DeleteOn the other hand, you CAN set a primary microphone by simply select HD Pro Webcam C920 as Input device in System Preferences -> Sound panel.
I'm probably overlooking something that's been printed repeatedly, but for the Logitech C920 camera, how do I know what resolution it is using on Skype, Hangouts, and FaceTime on a MAC computer? Is it fixed? I saw a reference online that said that it was broadcasting at less than HD on MAC. I know you can adjust in Quicktime....but what about others?
ReplyDeleteFor Skype, it does support HD mode (720p) on Mac. If Skype decides you have enough bandwidth and capable hardware, it will switch from SD mode to HD mode in about 1 minute after you starts video call.
DeleteFaceTime certainly support HD video call, check this link for requirements,
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4534?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
HD Hangouts requirement is here,
https://support.google.com/hangouts/answer/3367675?hl=en
I don't see anywhere is says Mac won't do it.
When Skype switch from SD to HD, you will notice the video ratio switched from 4:3 to 16:9.
Can you share the link where you saw Mac is broadcasting at less then HD? We may be help clear up there rumors :)
For some reasons my app is in Chinese, anyway to help me with this ? Thanks
ReplyDeleteIn your System Preferences > Language & Text > Language
DeleteYou can drag English on top of Chinese, quit Webcam Settings and launch it again. It will display English UI after this.
I just purchased this app for the zoom feature shown on the "advanced" tab screen shot. Turns out this is not supported by my built in iMac camera. I just wasted $7.99. You should say that all features shown are not supported by all cameras.
ReplyDeleteDear Mike,
DeleteI did put this information in the product description on this page and on the Mac App Store,
==============================
Advanced Settings (Only Microsoft LifeCam Studio, Cinema, Logitech HD Webcam C525, C615, C910 and C920 support Zoom, Pan and Tilt, please check our website for camera support.)
• Focus
• Zoom
• Pan
• Tilt
==============================
If I change this section into "all features shown are not supported by all cameras" as you suggested, will it be more clear to every user? Or do you think there is any other place I should change? Please help me correct this problem to prevent other users from buying this app and thinking they will get every setting to work on their camera. Your help will be highly appreciated.
And may I ask you to check this link for how to get a refund from App Store?
http://gizmodo.com/5886683/how-to-get-a-refund-from-the-app-store
If you have trouble getting refund from Apple, please let me know.
Thank you very much.
Great product. Check out SpiShutter.com which is a great HW companion when you're not using the webcam to avoid unintended use.
ReplyDeleteLifeCam Studio works great on Mac OSX 10.9 The only problem I am having is the image is flipped horizontally, ie., the image on the screen from the camera shows up switched from left to right. If I point at a door for example a door knob that in reality is on the left side will show up on the right side on the screen.
ReplyDeleteCould you include a horizontal flip switch in the software please?
Thanks
Hello,
ReplyDeleteAfter much research that suggested that a great many webcams will not work with Mavericks, I found specs for the Logitech C930E, which state compatibility with OS 10.7 and greater. I bought one today, and it works just fine out of the box, on all apps that support a webcam.
Logitech offers a camera control app (Logitech Camera Settings), which I have installed, and it does provide some control. I have looked at the functionality provided by your product, Webcam Settings, and am having difficulty identifying the benefits of your product over the Logitech app.
Please tell me the benefits of Webcam Settings over Logitech Camera Settings.
Thanks,
Brian
There are still a few hardware controls the Logitech Camera Settings does not support - Aperture Priority Exposure Mode, Manual Exposure Mode, Exposure Time, Gain, Power Line Frequency (anti-flicker) and Backlight Compensation. Recently I added LED control to most Logitech camera models.
DeleteWebcam Settings provides profile management feature that many users find it useful to deal with different lighting situation. The menubar app design of Webcam Settings make it more user friendly to work with other video apps.
If Logitech Camera Settings app has all the features you need, that's great. I hope to keep develop my app and make it more useful to every Mac webcam user.

ReplyDeleteI have been using Webcam Settings for over a year and quite pleased with it.
ReplyDeleteSomehow, today the zoom function stopped working. I can get pan and tilt to work and such but not to zoom. Any suggestions?
I tried closing the app and re-opening but not rebooting my Mac yet.

After one of updates app not support zoom settings in microsoft life cam studio. Now zoom work only with Skype and not work in apps like quick time player,
ReplyDeleteHI there, i was wondering if i can set up more than one webcam at the same time with camera settings app?
ReplyDeleteYes, Webcam Settings can control multiple cameras.
DeleteSimply click the top most popup menu and you can choose which camera you would like to control.
I'm using Webcam Settings on a Mac running OS X 10.9.2. I haven't used the app in a while and now it's not opening for me at all.
ReplyDeleteCan you check my FAQ page and see if FAQ #1 helps solve the issue?
DeleteAny chance there will be an update to Webcam Settings to support tinkering with Webcam audio settings? For instance, I'm using the Logitech C920 and would like to get the RightSound noise cancellation working in Mac apps.
ReplyDeleteI am following the USB Video Class specification to program all these video controls, RightSound is a Logitech proprietary technology and may requires Logitech supplied driver to work properly.
DeleteHi
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if there is any way to reset the controls exactly to the middle? And it would be really nice to know what the exposure time is when you change it. Any numbers in the control would help largely.
greetings
Click on the "Exposure Time" label and the slider control will be replaced by a text filed where you can input a number manually. You can also click on the icons at both ends to increase and decrease values by one. Hope this can help you make more precise control.
Deleteits possible to save the config and autoreload?
ReplyDeleteWebcam Settings allows you to save multiple "Profiles" and you can also make one of the profile to be loaded when the app starts.
Delete#1 I use WebCamSettings with a Logitech C910. WCS works well. From data I have collected.... the zoom effect is based on digital manipulation of the max resolution. Zoom is NOT based on any mechanical process. Is this correct ?
ReplyDelete#2 Is the zoom function a UVC defined command ?
#3 Is Pan & Tilt a UVC defined function ?
#4 Does WCS have a command line interface ?
99guspuppet #webCamSettingsQuestion
#1 Yes, the zoom function for C910 is based on the resolution. If you preview video at lower resolution, it can provide greater zoom level. And if you are previewing at maximum resolution, there won't be any zoom function.
DeleteNewer Logitech webcam such as C930 on the other hand does provide digital zoom. Even at highest resolution it can still provide 5X zoom.
All of these are digital zoom or digital manipulation, so far I not aware of any consumer level webcam is equipped with mechanical zoom.
One of my clients manuaturing Document Cameras and only these cameras with optical zoom lens and do mechanical zoom, the price point are naturelly a lot higher then consumer level webcam.
#2, #3, Yes, I am using UVC command to control Zoom, Pan and Tilt functions.
#4 I am sorry WCS currently does not have any command line interface.
Hi !
ReplyDeleteI've been using CameraSettings with a Logitech C920 in OSx 10.9.1 .
I would like to know if is there any way to know at which framerate the camera is capturing and giving frames to the apps ...
I'm working with Openframeworks.cc development framework and i would like to know if it's possible to set a fixed framerate for the camera C920. Do you have any debug information that can tell the user at which framerate is the camera capturing ?
Why in the 920C there is no capture fps option ? There is not such parameter on this camera ? As far as i remember the 910 did had such control ...
Any answer would be very appreciated ...

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI have the LifeCam Studio webcam and have been using your app with tremendous success. However, recently Apple put out an update for Maverick and ever since has cause intermittent issues with my MBP and webcam. My laptop will not always recognize the webcam. I took this in to Apple and they reset browser and flushed out the extensions. It worked but then started have issues again.
In your opinion, is this related to the OS, webcam, or maybe an update that might be needed on your app? Nobody seems to have the answer.
Thanks.
Can Webcam Settings change the camera resolution on a Logitech BCC950?
ReplyDeleteI am sorry Webcam Settings does not allow resolution switch. The resolution is usually controlled by the video app while previewing or recording.
DeleteCan 'Webcam Settings" latest version now control the activity light on the C910 in OS-X 8?
ReplyDeleteYes, Webcam Settings can control the activity light on C910 in OS X 10.8.
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI am using "webcam settings" on a Macbook pro 2014 with Yosemite.
How to load profile on startup. Option is greyed out.
Thanks
You can create a new profile by clicking "Save New Profile" button. Select the newly created profile from the popup menu and the "Load at Start" button will be enabled.
DeleteThis will tell Webcam Settings to load a specific profile when the app is launched.
To launch Webcam Settings on startup, please goto "System Preference" -> "Users & Groups" -> "Login Items" in your current user. Click the "+" button and choose "Webcam Settings" app as a startup item.
This will let OS X launch Webcam Setting on startup and the app will load your profile.
I'm using Mac OS 10.9.5 (Mavericks) with Webcam Settings 2.3, Microsoft Lifecam Studio (model Q2F00013) and Firefox 34.0.5. I typically work with two different websites that both use Flashplayer 16.0.0.235.
ReplyDeleteThe camera works properly with Webcam Settings on the first website, but even if I close the browser completely, reopen and then open the second website, an error message "camera is busy or broken" appears. Then if I go back to the first website, only a black box displays, so it doesn't work there anymore either.
The only way I've been able to resolve is turning off the computer and then turning it back on. A regular "restart" doesn't fix the problem.
I have read through the Adobe Flashplayer bug reports, but didn't see any mention of this issue. Do you think it could have something to do with Webcam Settings, or would you recommend any ways to troubleshoot?
Also, this wasn't an issue until the last couple of months. Before that, it worked ok on both sites, though sometimes the second one would display everything in purple. Unplugging and replugging the webcam fixed that issue though. So I'm wondering if this new problem might be caused by a new version of Flashplayer?
Other than this issue, Webcam Settings works very well and I'm happy with it.
Useless for me.

ReplyDeleteSince upgrading to 10.8.5, all buttons and controls have stop responding. And values for the controls are replaced with bizarrely high numbers. ReplyDeleteDear,
ReplyDeleteI just received an "endoscopy" USB HD camera with embedded LEDs. The drivers are made for Windows only (that I don't have to make a try). However, this external video camera is plug&play on my iMac (OSX10.12.x) and I can capture the video via Photo booth and FaceTime. Unfortunately the video quality is quite poor, and I can't change any camera setup (exposure, video definition (HD), sharpness, contrast, etc..
Before buying this application, I was looking for any thoughts or experiences with such external video camera or similar.
thank you in advance, yves
I have been a long time user of Webcam Settings - great program. Problem is I just upgraded to a new Macbook Pro (late 2016), on OS X 10.12.2, and Webcam Settings no longer is able to control my camera.
ReplyDeleteIs there perhaps something about the new Macbook or OS 10.12 that breaks working with webcam settings?
Thanks for the app!
ReplyDeleteI have a question about the Logitech Quickcam Pro for Mac (model: V-UBM46). I'm interested in taking still photos at the highest resolution possible. The only app I can find mention of to do this on a Mac is Photo Booth. But Photo Booth photos with my Quickcam always end up at 800x533 pixel resolution.
Is there any way to take a still photo on a Mac with my Quickcam Vision Pro at maximum resolution, which I believe is 1600x1200? Is there a way for Webcam Settings force this? (I don't want to pan or tilt.)
thanks for your help.
I just bought this app. I have Logitech Brio and when I use manual white balance, I have huge problem. When I open any app, image from camera is blue. I have to change WB a little bit, or turn on and turn off auto WB and then is okay. I have to do this every time when I want to use camera. If I load different profile in Webcam Settings app in preview window is the same - blue screen, then I have to change WB little bit and it's okay again. Please repair this
